Pete Paquette’s “Rio” Showreel!
Check out the blog of my buddy and mentor (I hope he doesn’t mind me calling him that! Muahaha) Pete Paquette here. Pete worked at Blue Sky for Robots – Rio, but has recently moved over 38 Studios to follow his love of games and gaming!
He just posted his showreel from Rio, and it’s pretty great.
Enjoy!

Carlos Baena’s Spanish Buzz Animation Test
Be sure to check out Carlos Baena’s blog for a post on his animation test for Spanish Buzz in Toy Story 3. Amazing stuff! Thanks for sharing, Carlos!

“Defective Detective” Short Film
I adore this short from Avner Geller and Stevie Lewis. The work on the detective’s eyes is great! Who needs dialogue when you’ve got acting like this? And the little old lady at the end? Perfect.

Check out Carlos’s site for his newly-added showreel of Toy Story 3 work, starring the famous Spanish Buzz.
The shots are here.
Ringling Student’s “Holy Sheep”
I love the style of Justin Farris’s senior short film from Ringling College of Art and Design. I’m a sucker for anything with googly eyes, and these sheep have ‘em by the bucketful! There’s tons of character in all of the sheep, even though they’re pretty much identical.

Animation Mentor Student Showcase 2011
Congrats to all of my friends and peers who made the cut! As always, there’s some amazing and breathtaking work coming out of Animation Mentor, and I’m proud to be a small part of it!
Check it out here.
Old Spice + Cloudy = Awesome
Here’s an animation test that Chris Williams did for the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs character Mayor Shelbourne.
The audio is from the famous Old Spice commercial featuring Bruce Campbell.
Awesome.

The Art of Malcon Pierce
Congrats to my buddy Malcon Pierce on being a featured artist on Flooby Nooby!
Malcon and I were at Blue Sky at the same time; he was working as a temp animator on Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs while I was a lowly production assistant intern. He was almost ready to graduate from Animation Mentor at the time, and generously took me under his wing whenever I asked what he was working on or how he was planning on approaching his next shot.
I love his drawing and painting style, highlighted here. According to Malcon, he does most of these drawings while waiting on Maya to load, recover, playblast, etc. Incredible! He has a few prints for sale, so hop on over to his site to check ‘em out! While you’re there, watch his Tangled reel. Be prepared to drool on your keyboard.
Malcon is currently working at Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, CA.
Inspiring Reels: Tyler Phillips
I stumbled upon the blog of animator Tyler Phillips and noticed that he’s added his reels from both Megamind and How to Train Your Dragon. Additionally, you’ll find his two dialogue tests from Animation Mentor, both of which were featured in the Animation Mentor Student Showcase (see above).
I had the pleasure of working with Tyler on his first big feature, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. He was a temp and I was a lowly intern, but he was always eager to share what he was working on. Following his few months at Blue Sky, Tyler was hired at DreamWorks Animation, where he has been working ever since!
Tyler is currently working on DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots!
Congrats Tyler! Keep up the amazing work!
