the end of class 3...

04.08.2010

Where does the time go? Class 3 has come and gone, and without a break week, I'm already immersed in week 2 of Class 4!

As I mentioned in previous posts, I learned a ton from animation master Wayne Gilbert during the Advanced Body Mechanics class. I now pay much closer attention to what I'm watching while reviewing video reference, and I am much more confident when moving from blocking to spline. I believe I've also developed a better sense of posing in terms of using the controls available on the rig and staying consistent. That is to say that I no longer crank the rig around to get the pose and then move on to the next pose with the same recklessness, only to discover in the graph editor that I've made a huge mess.

So, with that being said, here's a compilation of my work from Class 3. As you will remember, I chose the "AnimJam" approach to this class, assembling three shots with the theme "At the Gym."

I'm very happy with my work from this past class, but of course there's always room for improvement! I would have liked to have had a week off in between terms to add some polish, so these are still works-in-progress. Without the 200-frame constraint of the assignments, I plan to give the weight lift a little breathing room to let that weight settle. For the stretch shot, I'm working on adding a little more drag on Stewie's hands and arms. Finally, I'm going to massage the poses at the end of the treadmill piece a little to make them more appealing and clearer in silhouette. Enough explaining... here's the progress reel:
